Itch.io – The Indie game store with over 16000 Linux titles availible.

One great thing about Linux is always stumbling across something new. And I was shocked when I came across this. Itch.io is an open marketplace for independent digital creators. Ok your not going to find AAA-rated gaming content here, but there is a good choice of free to play games and interactive novels. One added bonus is that they provide a Linux store app so you can browse and install from the desktop. I have noticed a few titles on here for free that have then later migrated over to steam and require purchasing.

To Install simply head on over to itch.io and create an account. Then install the PPA by entering the following in a terminal.

wget -O - https://dl.itch.ovh/archive.key | sudo apt-key add -

ITCHIO_DEB="deb https://dl.bintray.com/itchio/deb xenial main"

echo $ITCHIO_DEB | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/itchio.list

Then update apt and install with sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

Open the app and login to start browsing. Do you use itch.io?  Have you got any favourite games or novels to recommend? Let us know in the comments.
